Beavers: The Most Powerful Animals in the World

Few animals inspire more dichotomous emotions than do beavers. Maligned as destructive pests and glorified as ecosystem engineers, beavers are as infamous as they are famous. The truth is that beavers are quite possibly the most important and powerful animals on this planet, as this highly visual presentation will reveal.

(Participants are invited to attend an informal reception after the presentation as the Indigo Hotel directly across the street from the Library, where a cash bar for wine and beer will be available.)

Biography: Michael Runtz is an award-winning Instructor with the Department of Biology at Carleton University, Ottawa Canada and an internationally known naturalist, nature photographer and author. His eleventh book, Dam Builders: the natural history of beavers and their ponds, was released in January 2014.
